February 23

Hello to everyone who is following along. We hope you have enjoyed all of our adventures. Feb. 23 is the last day out in Vancouver attending the Olympics. We will soon be home and at school. A big hello to everyone at Lady Eaton and Scott Young P.S. Especially to Mrs. Briand's Gr. 4 Class. Thanks for the email!

Our trip to Whistler began just like our trip to Cypress Mountain. We first took the Seabus to North Vancouver to catch the Olympic Bus Network to Whistler.

The view from the Seabus. The trip across the harbour only takes about 15 mins.

Our 2 hour bus ride travelled along highway 99 which is also called the 'Sea-to-Sky' Highway. The scenery was beautiful even though the weather was a little rainy and cloudy.

When we arrived we took a quick walk through part of Whistler Village.
These rings were a popular spot to get your picture taken. Many tourists like us wanted to pretend they were Olympians! The weather was a little rainy so we tried to stay dry with out hoods up.

This is the memorial that has been put in place in honour of the Georgian luger who died tragically during a training run at the Whistler Sliding Centre. There were pins, flowers and flags from people all around the world.

At the sliding centre. Thunderbird corner is in the background.

This is the ending of the course. Notice that it actually goes uphill to slow down the sliders at the end of the run. There are also stands to the right of the track for spectators to cheer the athletes at the end of the run.

Track workers check to make sure the ice is safe prior to the race.

The bobsleigh run is so interesting. It is like a tube of ice. The bobsleighs go super fast and you have watch carefully to see them.
Go Canada Go!!

It was really fun to cheer for Canada 1 and Canada 2 and at the end of the qualification runs, they were in 1st place and 4th place. The final runs will be on February 24 when they will award the medals to the winners.

After the competition we took a Gondola down the mountain. It was kind of like riding in an elevator. We then boarded the bus for the trip back to Vancouver.
